There are a host of different factors that go into determining the cost to clean your roof.  These include: surface area, type of growth, amount of growth, amount of discoloration, pitch of roof, accessibility of roof, gutter coverage, amount of vegetation, among other factors.  For this reason, we can give a “ball park” estimate over the phone or online, but we must do an in-person estimate to determine the final cost of cleaning your roof.

At Soap & the City, we do everything that we can to ensure the safety and protection of the landscaping surrounding your house.  Our process spends a considerable amount of time on landscape preservation and the mitigation of adverse effects from the cleaning chemicals.  All of the chemicals that we use are biodegradable and are not harmful to plants when diluted.  In the rare event that some of the cleaning solution causes irreversible harm to your landscaping, we will replace the affected vegetation.

There is a very high likelihood that your roof will appear brown for a period of time after it is cleaned. This brown discoloration is the bacteria and algae on your roof dying. The entire cleaning process can take up to six to eight weeks to fully remove all of the dead organic matter. As the sun drys out more of the dead organic matter, it will turn brown before eventually being rinsed off by the next rain storm. This process will continue until all of the dead matter has been dried out and washed off your roof.

You will typically see immediate results in the form of the dark black streaks disappearing from your roof. Then over the course of six to eight weeks your roof will continue to improve with every rain.

When a roof is cleaned using a soft washing method, it is actually killing all of the harmful bacteria and algae that is growing on your roof. Typically, this is a process that continues working over time. The initial application of the chemical solution to kill the grow will remove a great deal of the dark discoloration that you see on your roof. As the solution continues to penetrate the root systems of the organic growth it will cause more of the growth the die. The sun will then dry out this dead growth, before the rain washes it clean. Depending on the amount of sun and rain, this process can take a couple of days, or sometimes up to eight weeks.

All roof cleaning services will automatically come with a Five-Year Spot Free Warranty. This warranty guarantees that Soap & the City will provide the appropriate service to ensure the absence of visible dark discoloration from new organic growth on the Client’s roof for a period of 12 months beginning on the original date of service. In the event that within 12 months of the original service date, the Client notices significant discoloration on their roof, the Company will come out to the property and physically inspect the property to determine an appropriate course of action. The spot treatment of any new discoloration within 12 months following the original treatment will be at no cost to the Client. 

During years Two through Four of the warranty, if visible dark discoloration appears on the Client’s roof, Soap & the City will treat any affected areas for a 50% discount off the original quoted price, before any additional discounts.

For year Five of the warranty, Soap & the City will treat any areas of visible discoloration that appears on the Client’s roof for a 25% discount off of the original quoted price, before any additional discounts.

This warranty does not warranty the Client’s roof, nor does it warranty against any debris or growth and discoloration that was not treated during the original service. It is the Client’s responsibility to have debris regularly removed from the roof, and failure to remove said debris, may result in voiding the Five-Year Spot Free Warranty. Warranty is transferable to property’s new owner.
